The Return of DEAR Time...

Along with the word nincompoop (why did we ever stop using that term?) I'm singlehandedly bringing back DEAR time...that is, in Rome--at my language school.  Many teachers in the states still do it.

If you follow the blog you know that when my kids write, I write as well.  The modeling is important for them and kinda like all the other things they've learned up to this point in their lives, they observe others doing something, take mental notes, and then eventually do it themselves.  The same goes for reading.

This morning, I decided to try something different.  Instead of going around to the different centers the children were enjoying from 8:40ish to 9, I decided to plop myself down on the carpet, and read a book or two.
I chose a book...

and started reading silently

I laughed out loud when something was funny.  (I'm also stealing this phrase for my personal use).
No more than 2 minutes later I looked up...
and wouldn't ya know...

it had caught on.
I plan to have them hooked by the 31st.
