One thing that I love about teaching young learners is that the novelty of life hasn't worn off for them yet.
They are wowed by everything.

Like when I pulled out this ear of corn the other day. |

and invited the kids to use their senses to explore a food that was so widely used by Native Americans |

together we pulled back the husks and felt the kernels |
 |
we pulled away the brown hairy fibers found at the top |
 |
and made a list of adjectives describing corn |
Then the kids made their own corn...
 |
we got the kernel effect by using Do-a-Dot markers |
Those who come out to our Thanksgiving Potluck on Thursday evening (Nov. 28th) will be able to taste my favorite Thanksgiving dish--cornbread.
